Please find below some of the most frequent questions, please do not hesitate to contact us for more details

  1. When is a good time to visit Thailand?
    Thailand is a year-round destination with little change of temperature. However, as Thailand is a tropical country, at certain times of the year there is a heavier rainfall than at others. It is recommended that you take this into account when booking.


  2. How do I pay for my booking?
    When you make a booking via the Internet, you will be advised of the payment conditions, which apply. We will always request a deposit to guarantee your booking. At present, we cannot offer on-line credit card transactions and we require you to pay by bank transfer.


  3. What are the check in and check out times?
    The check in time at Amaia is 12:00pm and the check out time is noon. We will of course do our best to have the catamaran available for you whenever you arrive before 12h. However, this can never be guaranteed and is dependent on the occupancy level the days before. If you are planning to arrive early than 9h you may wish to book a room in a hotel. (we can help you with that as well. please let us know)


  4. Do you charge for cancellations?
    In the high season, we apply a stricter policy than during the low season where we try our best to accommodate the circumstances. Full details will be advised to you at the time of booking.


  5. What is the currency in Thailand?
    The currency in Thailand is Thai Baht. There are currency exchange facilities in all main tourist areas. The value of the Thai Baht has fluctuated dramatically over the last 2 years and it is recommended that you check the applicable rate of exchange at the time of booking.


  6. How do I get from the airport to the boat?
    We can arrange for a taxi or mini-bus to collect you. After a long flight, it is wonderful not to have to worry about finding a taxi. Alternatively, you can take one of the metered taxis that are available. They are cheap and safe. You will need to pay for the trip. It cost around 400 baths (7 Euro) for one way from the airport to Yacht Haven Marina. Just say Yacht Haven to the taxi booking counter, they will know. The cost of the fair might vary slightly if you take a taxi or a van. Fares are fixed. If you go to the taxi counter just on the right side of the immigration door.


  7. Do you have special facilities for handicapped travelers?
    Our catamaran is spacious and easy to go around but it has not been specially designed for disabled travelers.


  8. Are medical services available at the catamaran?
    We have a first aid kit available on the boat. Telephone line could reach a doctor on 24 hour call. If you have special requests please specify it upon arrival.


  9. Can you go diving during your trip?
    Amaia is not equipped with diving facilities, however if you like to dive, we can arrange and adjust the itinerary in order to explore the best diving spots of Andaman Sea. Nevertheless you will need to give us details of you expectations in terms of number of dives during your trip as well as you level of experience. There are many companies offering this service throughout Phuket, Krabi, Koh Phi Phi. You might want to check on the Thai tourist website for more details.


  10. What voltage do you use in Thailand?
    The voltage in Thailand is 220 volts. If you are coming form America then you will need to use a transformer to operate certain electrical appliances. On Amaia de voltage is 12 V and 220 V. If you have any device that you intend to bring and you are not sure off, please consult us first.


  11. Do you have TV, DVD reader or satellite television and in-house movies available?
    We have DVD player and CD so you will be able to enjoy your own movies (please note that some movies have territories restrictions) or the movies on board.




  12. What is the VAT refund system in Thailand?
    The current level of VAT in Thailand is 7%. The government has recently introduced a VAT refund system for tourists. Full details can be obtained from participating shops.


  13. How many guests can stay on the boat?
    Amaia is designed to comfortably carry up to 8- 10 adults with an addition of 2 crew members. The most comfortable set up is 8 guests and 2 crew.


  14. I am a novice boater. Can I safely operate such a boat?
    Amaia is made available to novices, and you just need to rely on your skipper and cook who will take great care of you. Relax! When renting a boat we explain everything you need to know and go through the boats with you. However, Amaia is a new 47 ft catamaran. It cost a lot of money and for the peace of mind of everyone; the owner has decided to have a permanent crew of at least a mechanical engineer on board. A lot of people actually chose to have a skipper and a cook on board. You're at ease because you have a crew who, in addition to being your personal tour guides, are looking after the boat, the food and the cleaning. You're on a floating resort where the scenery always changes, the food is prepared as you like it and you never run out of things to do.


  15. What about snorkeling gear and places to snorkel?
    We have all sizes of snorkeling gear on board. A set includes a mask, snorkel, fins. Reserving snorkel gear with your boat is recommended if you need a special size.


  16. Are there any dangerous creatures in Thailand
    Here you can discover starfish, puffer fish, sea slugs, hermit crabs, blue and stone crabs, spider crabs, schooling bait fish, sting rays and more! Don’t let some of these creatures’ scary names frighten you as snorkeling in our area is very safe!




  17. Will I see dolphins or Whales?
    You might be lucky and see some. They are frequent in these waters, especially when heading to the Similan islands.


  18. What should I bring?
    The best rule of thumb is to NOT bring anything that absolutely cannot get wet or jostled around. For your camera you might want to consider to buy a diving casing or bring alone a water proof camera. While snorkeling you will enjoy taking pictures of the fishes and corals and your family or friends. A camera or video camera is a very important item. You will not stop taking pictures during your trip. This could be one of the most exciting things you do all year! Be sure to slather on lots of sunscreen and bring some along to repeat application.. You might want to take a Plastic bag to keep towels dries while going ashore. Most people wear swimsuits and sunglasses all day long. We recommend securing your sunglasses with a strap if they’re the expensive kind. Water shoes are great, although most people go barefoot. We will keep your shoes off while you’re on the catamaran. Finally, do not forget your hat or cap.
    Please note that Top less is not recommended in Thailand.


  19. What should I pack when traveling overseas?
    Most of the items required for marine sports including towels are provided.

    Indispensable items:
    Passport, Visa, cash (local currency), credit card


  20. Useful items:
    Camera, back pack, guidebook and conversation phrasebook if necessary, a transformer and adapter, after sun, swimming suit, sunscreen and sun protection, beach sandals, T-Shirt, casual ware, sports shoes and sunglasses. You might want to bring a spare old tee shirt in order to swim with it while you are snorkeling for long hours, this will avoid you to get a sun burn without having to come back each time on the boat for another sun cream layer. I light jacket for the cooler evenings. Camera, back pack, guidebook a transformer and adapter, after sun, swimming suit, sunscreen and sun protection, beach sandals, sports shoes and sunglasses.




  21. What should I pack when traveling with children?
    When you leave with your child, we recommend you to have the items listed below:
    For babies:
    Feeding bottles and formula, wet wipes, diapers, their favorite toys but avoid to bring plasticine (modeling compound), felt pen, small pieces such as Lego it will damage the boat and someone could step and slide on it. For children:
    Small bag as back pack, hat, sunglasses, beach sandals, water shoes (for working on the beach during low tide and discover the wonder of the coral life, children’s sunscreen, swimming suit, goggles, insect repellent and a favorite toy.
    What type of luggage should I bring on the boat?
    One important element is to bring soft and foldable luggage in order to be able keep them while you are enjoying your trip. Hard case will be difficult to store anywhere on the boat. Besides soft luggage are lighter and easy to fit anywhere on the boat while hard casing might end up been are... in your room.


  22. How do I make a phone call from the boat
    You can make local and international phone calls from our mobile at Prepaid Rates. However you might want to use your own mobile, most of the sailing locations have GSM coverage.


  23. What is the time difference between my country and Thailand
    Please note that the local time zone is GMT +8


  24. What do AMAIA All Inclusive prices include?
    All that is required for an enjoyable holiday is already included in the package price. Your meals are all included, tips are at your discretion at the end of the trip, and you don’t need to have your wallet with you all the time as you will be enjoying on board breakfast, lunch and dinner.

    Additional charges for activities not included in the Fully crewed all Inclusive price, such as soft drinks or biers, optional tours and excursions, Spa treatments, laundry or petrol. The boat is not equipped with laundry service on board. (check out the rate page for more details)


  25. Activities on the boat
    Beside all usual water sport activity, diving fishing and other can be arranged. We can also arrange while we are sailing to stop in some hotel for a massage session.




  26. What are the Passport requirements?
    Before departure, check to ensure that each person traveling holds a valid passport with a minimum of 6 months validity from the return date. Please check with your Thai embassy before departure. Be careful to ensure the validity of your passport several months before departure as it might take 15 to up to 2 month to renew a passport.


  27. What is the system put in place to care after children?
    Your Kids can enjoy sports activities, dry and water games, snack time, reading time, rest time, etc.

    In addition to the fun and activities, you will truly feel at ease during your holiday, knowing that youth children are having a great time too.

    The benefit of chartering a catamaran is that is stable, spacious and comfortable, your children will be able to enjoy the full surface for the boat form their room, living room, cockpit or front deck. Life jacket can be provided, however please communicated the details of your kids in order for us to gat a fitting size. A kid net has been installed in order to repellent children from falling overboard. However please note that they are your responsibility and you couldn't ask any of our staff to look after them.


  28. What is a typical day on AMAIA catamaran?
    Relax, Relax, play, sunbath, discover Phuket, Krabi, Phang Na bay an and Adaman sea, snorkel, play cards, read, sun bath, eat nice fruits, enjoy Thai and international food, or a body massage.


  29. What is the minimum stay?
    What is the minimum length for a charter? For luxury crewed charters there is a minimum of 3 nights 4 days.


  30. Do charters start on a set day?
    Charters can start any day of the week, the only restriction would be availability.


  31. When is the best time to visit Thailand?
    During the cool season between November and March.


  32. What vaccinations do I need before coming to Thailand?
    There are no required vaccinations, unless you are coming from an infected area. Yellow fever certificates are required for those who are coming from an infected area. Please check the latest regulations with your local health office.

  35. What are the regulations regarding the export of antiques from Thailand?
    Buddha images, Bodhisattva images or fragments thereof are forbidden to be taken out of Thailand. A license must be obtained from the Department of Fine Arts in order that such objects of antiquity or objects of art, irrespective of whether they are originals or reproductions, may be taken out of the country.   36. Do you have air conditioning on board?
    AMAIA is very well ventilated thanks to the numerous hatches and windows in the leaving room and in each room. Besides natural ventilation, AMAIA is also equipped with fans. We decided not to put Air con on board because it is too noisy and people can also get a cold due to direct exposure to cold air, and finally having a generator on board is heavy, so would slow down the boat. Catamarans are always much better ventilated than monohulls.


  37. Where is the boat located?
    AMAIA is located at the Marina of Yacht Haven, very close to the International report. The place is sheltered form the winds and tides. The view at sunrise is breathtaking. It is worth to go for the sunrise.


  38. How can I protect myself from mosquito bites?
    The best is to use mosquito repellent, but generally on board and at sea you should not be bothered by mosquito and sun flies. Mosquito and Sun flies are more to be found on the beach and villages. Thailand is not a risk zone for any tropical diseases.


  39. What food would you provide on board?
    You can either rely 100% on us, in this case we will prepare and cater the provisioning for you. We will prepare you Thai or international food. You can also get fresh fish or squids form the fisherman. Or you can select you own provisioning subject to availability and extra fee. If you have any special request or you want vegetarian food do not worry we can arrange it, please let us know in advance.


  40. How do we Checkout?
    We will have a designated time for you to begin your check in and out procedure prior to any gear being loaded in or out of the yacht. Average check out time is approximately 2 Hours.


  41. What certificates do I need to charter a bareboat?
    If you choose the option of chartering the boat, you will need to provide the accreditations.


  42. Do I need to Tip?
    It is commonplace to tip to whom provide a good service. As a guideline 10-15% tip is acceptable.


  43. I forgot to pack something
    If you forget EVERYTHING! No worries, you can always go to the Supermarket and get all what you need before going sailing. You will be amazed to find most of your products at home are available in Phuket Supermarket. If you forgot to bring few items, such as panadol, mosquito repellent, sun cream, etc, you might be able to find them on the most popular island.
